Technical Diving Instruction

THE ORIGINAL AKUMAL DIVE SHOP feels the decision to seek training as a technical diver is one of the most important decisions a diver makes. It is also one of the most serious. By making the decision to "go technical" a diver is entering, in a very real way, a new world. Suddenly many of the old rules no longer apply. New concerns are discovered. Self reliance is now the rule, not the dive buddy of before. Although this diving is very safe, it is only safe when it is done correctly. And doing it correctly comes from training. There are few other activities where success and the safety of the participants is so dependent on training.

The Akumal Dive Shop chose TDI (Technical Diving International) as the certifying agency for our technical and overhead environment programs due to the presence, safety and quality standards that TDI courses provide, with a wide range of areas and training in overhead and technical diving, is the largest technical certifying agency in the world, world wide recognized, and with the most experienced instructors and Staff. We proudly offer the TDI diver courses in our catalog; TDI Instructor courses are offered upon an individual examination of the candidates.

At the Akumal Dive Shop we also understand dedicated and motivated serious divers with different diving goals or needs that are hard to match with the training that conventional technical agencies provide. Through the years the Akumal Dive Shop has been involved and provided assistance to diving team's projects in various conditions & areas such as biology and archaeological research, exploration, advanced search and recovery, etc. that required specific diving training or application of technical diving knowledge in a particular task.

The intention of these Specialty Courses is training divers for an specific job, more than a certification card, training and knowledge is shared through past project's experience to serious divers facing similar situations in which diving is a mere tool to complete their work. Enrollment in these courses is meticulously reviewed and applications without a real valuable project will be denied.
