During the winter every year, the Mexican Caribbean sees the arrival of one of the fastest fish in the ocean: the Sail Fish. And we have the opportunity to snorkel and swim with them in their natural habitat.
Sail Fishes are the fastest of all marine fishes. They can reach speeds of 30m per second, which is equivalent to 120 Km/h (75mph).
Sail Fishes are blue to gray in color with white underbellies. They get their name from their spectacular dorsal fin that stretches nearly the length of their body and is much higher than their bodies.
They are members of the billfish family, and as such, have an upper jaw that juts out well beyond their lower jaw and forms a distinctive spear. These powerful and strong fish can grow to more than 10 feet and weigh up to 220 pounds.
They come attracted by the abundance of sardines in this area, which form huge schools moving as a single giant animal. In this lifetime adventure, you will swim with these awesome marine animals and enjoy the spectacle as the Sardines dance to avoid their agile predators.
It is definitely an encounter like no other!
