Tec 40

The Tec 40 course is where you transition from recreational scuba diving to technical diving. It’s a great place to start because it’s the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec Diver course and bridges the gap between no stop diving and full technical deep decompression diving. You gain experience and begin building tec diving knowledge and skills. You will qualify to make limited decompression dives to 40 m.

The diver is qualified to complete up to 10 minutes of non-accelerated decompression while breathing from one additional deco cylinder of up to EANx50. Depth is limited to 130 feet or 40 meters.
This course can be offered in both backmount or sidemount configuration. You’ll learn to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air to 40 metres/130 feet and breathing enriched air (up to 50%) for conservatism:

Some of the motor skills you will learn and master are:

  • Technical equipment set up
  • Buoyancy check
  • Neutral buoyancy control
  • Remove and replace stage at surface/underwater
  • Gas shut down drills
  • Free flow shut down drill
  • Out of Air
  • Bubble check
  • S-drill
  • NOTOX gas switch
  • Lift bag deployment
  • Calculating sac rate
  • Maintain simulated deco stop
  • Failed lift bag deployment drill
  • Decompression dive planning with desktop software

This courses include reading of the student manual, KRs and Practical Applications.

Tec 45

With this course you’ll extend your depth limit to 45 meters/145 feet. The PADI Tec 45 course is the second part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program.

The diver now is introduced to longer decompression schedules in either backmount or sidemount configuration and using one additional deco cylinder. The diver is qualified to complete accelerated decompression dives using any mix of EANx or oxygen. Depth is limited to 45 mts / 145 feet.

In addition to the motor skills performed on the Tec 40 course you’ll also learn to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air and enriched air to 45 meters/145 feet. Staging and retrieving decompression tanks and Out of air gas sharing whilst swimming exercise.

You’ll also be trained in the use of:

  • Technical diving equipment and procedures
  • The motor skills needed for technical diving
  • Understand and acknowledge the hazards and risks involved in technical diving
  • Prepare & respond to reasonably foreseeable technical diving emergencies that may occur
  • and provide the foundation skills and knowledge necessary for continuing onto Tec 50 and completing the entire Tec deep Diver course.

To enroll in the Tec 45 course, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a PADI Tec 40 diver
  • Be a PADI Rescue Diver
  • Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 12 dives on enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 10 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet

Tec 45 course includes:

  • Equipment
  • Theory and practice
  • PADIcertification

What scuba gear will you use? You’ll use full technical equipment, which includes wings and doubles plus an additional deco cylinder, or you may use a technical Sidemount configuration. Your PADI Tec Deep Instructor will explain the gear required for your tec diving adventures.

Next Step: Continue your tec diver training.

Tec 50

This qualification represents a high level of competency for a technical diver. The Tec 50 is the third part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program.

The diver is qualified to use air for bottom gas and 2 decompression mixes up to 100% Oxygen to make extended, accelerated decompression dives. Depth limit is 50 meters / 165 feet.

You’ll learn to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air, enriched air, and pure Oxygen, to 50 meters / 165 feet. You will practice all the motor skills learned in Tec 40/45 whilst swimming “on the fly” and completing surprise emergency drills. You’ll also prepare for and respond to foreseeable technical diving emergencies.

This course includes student manual, KRs and practical applications

To enroll in the Tec 50 course, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a PADI Tec 45 diver
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 20 dives on enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 15 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet

Tec 50 course includes:

  • Equipment
  • Theory and practice
  • PADI certification

What scuba gear will you use? You’ll use full technical equipment and you may use a technical Sidemount configuration, plus two stage/decompression cylinders. Your Tec Deep Instructor may also introduce you to using trimix on the last open water dive.
